Water Sports

If there’s a theme to summer in the Flathead, it’s water. Flathead Lake offers the full array of flatwater fun — swimming, skiing, canoeing, sailing, fishing, paddle boarding, power boating, you name it. And Flathead isn’t the only lake. A short trip west will take you to the Thompson Lakes and Lake Koocanusa. Head into Glacier National Park for a paddle across Lake MacDonald. To the north, you’ll discover beautiful Whitefish Lake. There are literally dozens of lakes you can drive to and play on in the area. If moving water is more your speed, there’s ample opportunity for that, too. The various forks of the Flathead offer hundreds of miles of floats — everything from serenely mild to whitewater wild.

PADDLES UP!
Keep an eye out for Dragon Boats.  These 46 ft. boats are powered by highly synchronized teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer. Teams from around the US and Canada gather on Flathead Lake every September for the annual Montana Dragon Boat Festival.
